"If you want to control your door lock remotely via the internet (i.e., unlock or lock it using the Apple Home app or Siri when you’re away from home), you’ll need an Apple Home Hub.
What is an Apple Home Hub:
- An Apple Home Hub is an Apple device that acts as a smart home control center.
- Available Hub devices include: Apple TV (3rd generation or later), HomePod, HomePod mini, or iPad (which must remain at home and be turned on at all times).
- The Hub connects the Bluetooth door lock to the internet, enabling remote access.
Differences in usage scenarios:
1. No Home Hub (Bluetooth only):
- You must be near the door lock (within Bluetooth range, approximately 10 meters) to operate it.
- You can use Apple Home Key (NFC tap-to-unlock) to unlock the door lock by holding your device near it; this feature does not require a Hub.
- Siri voice control requires you to be at home with your iPhone near the door lock.
2. With a Home Hub (Bluetooth + Internet):
- You can remotely view the door lock’s status and lock/unlock it from anywhere in the world using the Apple Home app.
- You can remotely control the door lock via Siri voice commands while away from home.
- You can receive status notifications from the lock (e.g., a reminder if the door is left open).
Please note:
- The Apple Home Key (a digital key in your iPhone Wallet) unlocks the door when held near the lock; this feature does not require a Home Hub.
- Our door lock is ready to use with the Apple Home Key right out of the box, but remote features require an additional Apple Home Hub device."
